What problems do physiotherapists treat?

The type of treatments used and the range of patients a physiotherapist treats can vary significantly. These can include a patient recovering from surgery who needs physical therapy to improve mobility, aid recovery, and restore a better state of physical health.

Some patients have chronic conditions such as back pain or joint pain that physiotherapy helps to improve the range of motion and reduce pain and quality of life.

A physical therapist may help someone after a stroke and work with them to return movement to certain parts of the body after paralysis, such as the face, arms, or legs.

Not all physical therapist work is responsive to a specific illness or recovery from surgery. They are commonly used in sports environments to optimize performance and protect against injury. They also help with issues like pregnancy pain by improving pelvic alignment through exercise and manual therapy.

For example, a person suffering from chronic joint pain can be given a massage to reduce discomfort or manual therapy where the joint is directly manipulated. This type of treatment is often combined with exercise regimens to help further improve a person’s condition.
