Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy is a non-invasive, painless treatment which uses focused light at specific wavelengths to speed up the healing process and reduce or eliminate pain from injuries and chronic conditions.

We Think Bigger

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a well-studied method to eliminate chronic and acute pain.
The goal of this non-invasive application is to deliver light energy to tissue needing treatment, which reduces pain and increases circulation.
Super pulsed laser technology by Multi Radiance provides a safe and effective mechanism of energy delivery, combining three clinically proven light wavelengths for optimal tissue penetration:
Red light at 660 nanometers, infrared light at 875 nanometers, and super pulsed laser at 905 nanometers.
The super pulsed laser provides high-powered light in hundred-billionths-of-a-second pulses to drive photons deep into the tissue without any harmful thermal effects.
The full 25 Watts of power is being generated at the peak of the pulse, creating high energy density. In addition, the energy delivered at 905 nanometers is most efficiently absorbed by hemoglobin in the blood.
More hemoglobin with an increased circulation of blood means more oxygen supplied to the cells.
This creates a beneficial systemic effect throughout the body.
When these specific wavelengths are combined, there’s a 100% increase in the availability of light below the skin when compared to them being separately applied, confirming the presence of this Triple Cascade Effect, which was validated by the Pillars Paper Research. Multi Radiance’s ability to vary the frequencies or speed at which light is delivered is extremely beneficial.
Higher frequencies penetrate relatively shallow tissue and have an inhibiting effect on pain, whereas lower frequencies enable deeper tissue penetration and create a stimulatory effect on the tissue.
Constant use of the same frequency, as found in other continuous-wave lasers, causes tissue homeostasis and adaptation to the laser effects, and thus limits their therapeutic power.
With the LaserStim Emitter, the body responds and the impulse adjusts dynamically to the feedback from the electrodes that are in contact with the skin, engaging in a process of contact interaction that provides optimal treatment and also avoids the body’s natural tendency to accommodate to the stimulation.
This technology delivers more beneficial light to the target tissue as compared to Class IV lasers and the efficacy of Multi Radiance lasers has been validated in vitro, in vivo, in laboratory-controlled studies, and in clinical practice.
Globally, Multi Radiance technology is utilized to treat a broad range of conditions and has approvals and clearances in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.

Everything You Need to Know

laser therapy

Recent years have shown increased use of laser therapy to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, and here’s everything you need to know about this type of therapy.

Laser Therapy Introduction

In brief, it is the process of using a pin-pointed wavelength of the laser to cure various conditions of pain and tissue repair.
Laser, the abbreviation for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, is a device that produces light. In recent times, this device, given on a particular wavelength between 600 nm to 905 nm, is widely being used in physiotherapy. The last few years have proven to be very successful for laser therapy and its capability to have a good effect on pain and tissue repair.
Laser Therapy is majorly divided into three types, Low Light Laser Therapy, High Light Laser Therapy and Multi Radiance Laser Therapy.

Is Laser Therapy Effective?

In the year 2017, a systematic review and meta-analysis proved that low light laser therapy is very effective in treating adults with musculoskeletal disorders pain. The overall review, after being adhered to by the World Association of Laser Therapy (WALT) was that it is an effective treatment option for musculoskeletal pain in primary care.

The evidence of research suggested that it is not so functional for shoulder pain or acute or chronic neck pain. However, for knee pain, low light laser therapy was considered effective when done along with exercise and/or surgical treatment.

A few things to keep in mind

Every therapy has a few contradictions, and one needs to be careful about them to receive proper treatment. Laser Therapy also has some contradictions, according to The North American Association for Laser Therapy, namely:

  • Eye: The laser can be harmful to sight and should not point at the eyes. Everyone present should wear proper spectacles and protective gear.
  • Cancer: One needs to be extra careful with cancer patients. The laser should not be pointed over any known site of primary carcinoma or secondary metastasis. If the patient is undergoing chemotherapy, LLLT can be used to reduce side effects like mucositis. It can also be used for palliative relief in terminally-ill cancer patients.
  • Pregnant: One can undergo low light laser therapy during pregnancy but do not treat directly over the fetus.
  • Epileptics: A low frequency pulsed visible light (i.e. <30 Hz) can cause seizures in epileptic, photosensitive patients.

This is all the basic information that you need to know about laser therapy. Not only have we established that it is one of the most effective methods for pain reduction, tissue generation, and inflammation reduction, but also that it is a safe option.

Types of Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy is majorly divided into three types, Low Light Laser Therapy, High Light Laser Therapy and Multi Radiance Laser Therapy.

Low Light Laser Therapy LLLT

Low Light Laser Therapy (LLLT) is now common among physiotherapists to treat numerous musculoskeletal conditions. The process of LLLT includes the generation of a very particular wavelength of light and absolutely no generation of heat, sound, or vibrations. The wavelength range from 600-905 nm can penetrate the skin, soft and hard tissues. Low Light Laser Therapy affects the function of connective tissue cells, increases the speed of connective tissue repair and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent.

As discussed above, the three main effects of LLLT are:

  1. Pain reduction with immediate or fast effect
  2. Inflammation reduction within a few hours or days of the treatment
  3. Accelerated tissue regeneration

Many conditions come under these three main effects of LLLT, namely, Osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and ankle, Rheumatoid arthritis, Sciatica, Shoulder impingement syndromes, tennis elbows, neuropathic pain, and many more. LLLT has proven successful in eradicating all these conditions in the past.

High Light Laser Therapy HLLT

High Light Laser Therapy (HLLT) is just another variation of laser therapy that has a comparatively higher output power. This high output power usually generates heat that can be felt on the skin by the patient. In comparison to LLLT, HLLT is all the light wavelengths that produce more than 0.5 Watt Power.

High light laser therapy is one of the fastest and most effective methods to treat pain and inflammation.

Apart from being effective for pain, here are a few other conditions that can be treated using high light laser therapy:

  •  Improved Vascular Activity: the laser light helps in the increase of formation of new capillaries in damaged tissues. This closes wounds quickly and ensures proper healing.
  • Trigger and Acupuncture Points: HLLT is effective in eradicating painful trigger points. It also helps in stimulating acupuncture points without the discomfort of needles.
  • Stem Cell Activation: Laser therapy helps in increasing the number of stem cells. This eventually helps in effective healing.
  • Reduces Fibrous Tissue Formation: High light laser therapy helps in reducing the formation of scar tissues following tissue damage from injuries, burn, surgery, or scratches.

Multi Radiance Laser Therapy

Multi Radiance Laser Therapy is the third type and sort of a mix of the above-mentioned two laser therapy types. Considered more effective as compared to the others, here is everything you need to know about this type of laser therapy in detail:

Multi Radiance Medical uses three clinically proven wavelengths: 660 nm, 875 nm and 905 nm to cover the entire spectrum therapeutic window of light for deeper penetration and enhanced absorption of light.

MR4 delivers controlled therapeutic energy deep into tissue more effectively than continuous wave and pulsed-modulated lasers while preserving the overlying epidermis.

Multi Radiance Medical’s proprietary multi-source technology successfully manipulates the interaction between light, laser and magnetic energy fields to achieve the desired penetration in the target tissue area.

Each impulse of the super pulsed laser produces high peak power delivered for a very brief duration. It is the high power level during each pulse that creates the energy density necessary to deliver adequate doses to the target tissue. Even though the pulse peaks at a high power level, there are no thermal effects in the tissue.

So Multi Radiance Laser Therapy has all the benefits of High power laser and NONE OF THE RISKS AND HAZARDS.
