Kneecap Problems and Treatments

Kneecap

What factors cause pelvic pain or knee patella pain? Kneecap pain, also called patella femoral syndrome, is one of the common injuries in the knee joint that causes pain. When a joint has a problem, all the movements of the body in which that joint plays a role are also disturbed. In the case of the knee, the range of these movements is extensive.

The symptoms observed in the front part of the knee and the pain in that area can have different reasons and factors. Solving the problem related to these factors is different from the other. In the following, we will discuss the cause of knee patella pain and, more specifically, examine the injury and pain of the kneecap.

Kneecap

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

Pain in the kneecap or patella is a complication that can affect both young and middle-aged people. The kneecap or patella consists of a joint where the end of the femur is located. That is, one head of the femur is placed in the kneecap.

Pain that occurs in the front of the knee is usually related to dysfunction of the femur joint in the patella, which is called a patellofemoral syndrome.

In most cases, the patellofemoral syndrome occurs when the kneecap becomes inflamed and tense for any reason. Inflammation occurs when the femur does not move well in the patella, and the two are not in a good position relative to each other.

If we want to address this issue from a scientific point of view and examine the anatomy of the hip joint, we must say that the kneecap is placed in the groove of the femur.

The quadriceps muscles are connected to the patella from above and continue from below to form the subpatellar tendon below it. One of the other soft tissues attached to the patella in the knee is the macula the patella. The patellar retinaculum is a curtain with tendon tissue placed inside, around, and outside the patella.

What are the symptoms of patellar knee pain?

The most common and obvious symptom of kneecap pain is the pain felt in the front of the knee. Activities in which the front part of the knee is active also become painful.

For example, changing from sitting to standing, going up and down stairs, going down jumping, and jumping will cause pain in this area.

In addition, you may hear a sound like a cramp in the knee and produce this sound called crepitus. Of course, the sound of bone wear is nothing to worry about unless you feel pain.

Causes of front knee pain (kneecap)

Many factors can cause knee pain. Leg structure and movements, muscle strength, and flexibility of soft tissues are all factors that can cause pain in the front of the knee. Some people may feel pain in the kneecap by performing vigorous movements.

This activity and excessive knee joint movement can cause the patella’s excessive movement in the exercise. Excessive movement of the patella over time can turn into inflammation of the patella, which will bring pain.

In the past, knee patella pains were only related to the tissues around the knee, and the patella is not. Still, today, we know that patellofemoral pain cannot be examined only in isolation.

These aches are considered the long with this symptom, most body o stellar body parts. To relieve knee patellar pain, the direct function body or the related factors that are directly involved in the function of the knee patella should be examined and treated.

Perhaps this type of view will give us a better understanding of the patellar pain situation, which considers the muscles and tissues associated with the kneecap as a piece of bone among a series of connected bone tissue, like a train that moves on waterways. Consider. The function of the kneecap is just like a train on the way.

Posture Dysfunction and Flexion Dysfunction Exercises

The result of the knee extensor coming out of the thigh groove

When the patella of the knee is out of adjustment, and its function is disrupted, the problem may not be the patella itself but its path. Like a train that may derail due to a problem with the rails.

For example, incorrect and wrong movement of the foot and other muscles and tissues on the way may cause improper movement of the patella and damage.

The removal of the patella from the thigh groove is a condition that causes the tissues around the knee patella to become inflamed and cause pain. The two parts that have the most movements in this path (the path where the patella is located) and can cause problems are the legs and pelvis.

The foot may rotate inwards (pronation), which causes the knee and femur to move forward. This movement causes the patella to move out of the thigh groove and causes problems.

Another part of the body that can cause excessive movement and dislocation of the patella is the pelvis. In this case, the weakness of the muscles around the pelvis is the cause of the problem. If the muscles around the pelvis are not strong enough, the leg from the hip joint may rotate too much inward, which again causes the path where the patella is to move, resulting in the patella being placed in the groove. Take out the track.

The position of the patella, which is in the middle of the distance between the pelvis and the end of the foot, is similar to a ball placed on a band. The ball will fall off the tape if this band moves too much from the top or bottom.

Anti-inflammatory drug

For example, the use of anti-inflammatory drugs is one of these options that must be monitored and prescribed by a doctor.

The next step is to prevent re-injury in the knee. Regarding the problem of the patella coming out of the thigh groove, this should be done by controlling the movement and internal rotation of the foot.

The pain will decrease, and the inflammation will subside when you can prevent the patella from re-injuring the tissues.

Shoes for Kneecap Pain

One of the ways to prevent internal rotation of the foot is to use the right shoes. In general, sports shoes that are special for running have a significant effect on controlling excessive leg movement and stress and pressure on the knee tissues. You can also use medical shoes for this purpose. Medical shoes designed to control movement and create more stability in the foot suit this issue.

Insoles for shoes

Another way is to use suitable insoles for shoes. The sole of the shoe must be specially designed for this purpose. However, you can use ready-made medical insoles for this purpose. Of course, its shape and design must be approved by a doctor to ensure that what you do is aimed at improving the condition of the foot.

Knee strap

The problem of excessive movement of the patella can be significantly controlled by using a knee brace. The knee brace helps keep the patella in place and prevents it from moving too much and possibly dislocating (i.e., the thigh groove).
